With over a decade of experience in OSHA Safety Compliance, working with dental offices all around the Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin areas, it is very apparent that it has become more and more difficult for a productive office to keep up with the changes that are imposed upon the dental industry. OSHA regulations continue to change yearly and the Infection Control Recommendations by the ADA and CDC, that help keep your staff and patients safe, are almost a full time job to monitor and maintain. No matter what the reason, compliance with the OSHA and Infection Control recommendations seems to always be the thing that is on the "I will get to it when..." list in each office.
The importance of being in compliance with OSHA regulations is not because you could receive some very large fines, but that you understand the potential danger you and your staff face by exposing yourselves to the diseases we may encounter on a daily basis. It should be the priority of every dental employer, and employee, to understand this potential danger and to learn how to protect themselves from these diseases
New recommendations for infection control procedures are being developed every year. In the past year both the American Dental Association and the Center for Disease Control have issued new guidelines for infection control in dentistry. Even our own Texas State Board has issued requirements for assistants to pass a test concerning Infection Control. Copies of these recommendations can be found at their respective sites. See links on this page.
